Jessica Gomes wasn't always a jewelry designer. She started her career as a baker and pastry creator on Cape Cod after graduating from culinary arts school in Saint Augustine, Florida and soon after opened her own business Sweet Dreams by Jessica, creating pastries and vintage style wedding cakes. Fast forward 5 years later and the birth of her first son, she decided a shift was necessary as it became too stressful to meet the deadlines of wedding cakes. Thus in 2008 The Beaded Wire became her creative outlet. Her designs are made with Swarovski Crystal and other high quality components and can be found in stores throughout the USA and online.

YOU WENT FROM PASTRY MAKING TO JEWELRY MAKING, WAS IT A NATURAL TRANSITION?
I feel that it was a natural transition from baking in a creative and technical sense. Laying out a pastry and jewelry table are very similar visually and very rewarding!! And technically, a delicate balance between exact measurement and creativity are the key to both.
DID YOU TEACH YOURSELF JEWELRY MAKING?
I taught myself to start out. After having my first child, staying at home I soon became restless and picked up a jewelry making book and some beads. I made my first pair of earrings and brought them to show off at my weekly baby/play group. Well, another mother wanted to buy them so the next week I brought in a few pairs and they all sold...the next thing I knew I was hosting jewelry parties in private homes.
YOU STARTED OUT WITH JEWELRY PARTIES AND ARE NOW IN A NUMBER OF STORES, WHAT WAS THE BIG AHA MOMENT THAT MADE THAT HAPPEN?
A shop owner attended one of those parties and asked to carry the line in her shop and that's how it began. Word of mouth and the privilege of living in an artisan friendly community allowed me to expand locally. I googled and researched every new business challenge that I encountered and learned as I went. Eventually I acquired sales representatives throughout the country and currently maintain these accounts, while raising my two young children. I am currently apprenticing under a silver smith learning the ins and outs of fine jewelry and expect to introduce another fantastic new line for 2016.
TELL US ABOUT THE SALTY GIRL JEWELRY LINE
I have introduced 3 new lines this Spring in addition to The BeadedWire. To put it simply there's Mirabolante which is a Bridal and Prom collection, JG- a toned down casual line made of matte metals and faceted glass and of course Salty Girl!! Salty Girl was a line created for young girls and quickly gained popularity as adults were wearing the petite pieces as well as the youngsters. Each new line has a uniqueness that I chose to give an individual identity, much like the exclusive boutiques that carry the different collections.
