GLAMOS WIRE PRODUCTS
Minnesota-based manufacturer continues to grow and prosper after 114 years in business.
Glamos Wire Products has a great American story to tell. They have seen the rise of the airplane, automobile and smart phone and weathered through 20 government administrations beginning with William McKinley to Barack Obama today. During that time, they have survived two world wars and countless recessions. Headquartered in Hugo, Minnesota they are a family-owned and operated business that employs up to 50 people during the peak season.
The company was founded in 1899 by Joseph Glamos after his family emigrated from Europe in the early 1800’s. They were tinkers in the old country but made St. Paul , MN their home. Joseph started his wire manufacturing company with an in-law called Svabek & Glamos 1899 and later bought out Svabek in the 1920’s.
Initially, Glamos and Svabek made wire floral forms for caskets and later produced display racks and custom wire forms. After WWII, Jeanette Glamos Wilson became the first female owner of Glamos at a time when women business owners were not the norm in America. She was widowed and left with a small child, Joe Glamos (third generation), and kept the company going and growing. Joe bought the company from her in 1965.
In 1974, Joe moved the company from St. Paul to Hugo, MN. He was the first in the country to utilize the palletization of tomato cages for more efficient freight/shipping. Over the next 35 years, Glamos Wire continued to expand, in building and business size. The fourth generation of the Glamos family was ready to take the reigns, which they retain today.
Disaster struck in 2008, when a tornado ripped through Hugo and damaged the Glamos facility. On top of this, a devastating fire leveled the property in 2011. Determined not to be defeated by these mishaps, the Glamos family rebuilt their business and re-opened the new 22,000 square foot expansion to their warehouse facility.
Glamos Wire uses only 100% American made steel in all of their products. They use 100% American labor and sell through a 100% American sales and distribution team. All of their wire is made from recycled steel, most often captured from the U.S. auto manufacturers.
